Soundwaves Festival 2008
 Brighton & Hove 13 - 29 June

Soundwaves Festival
Music Outside the Box

Friday 13 June – Monday 16 June

Community Weekend

To kick off Soundwaves Festival 2008 we have invited local people to get involved in music making and as last year we start the festivities at Brighton Station. Come along and enjoy an hour of fresh and exciting sound art in this unusual setting. The University of Sussex 21st Century Music Ensemble invites us to a concert with "socialist tendencies", when they play music by Louis Andriessen, Terry Riley and Frederic Rzewski alongside more contemporary re-imaginings of the subject by postgraduate music students. On Sunday, CoMA (Contemporary Music Making for Amateurs) invites everyone who is interested in playing and exploring music, whatever their ability, to join them in a day long workshop dedicated to the interpretation of music written during this century. CoMA London, a successful and established ensemble of amateur musicians, who have performed in London and at other festivals to great critical acclaim, give an evening concert of music especially written for amateur ensemble. This promises to be a day that should not be missed by any instrumentalist - a great opportunity to meet other e nthusiasts and, who knows, maybe form lasting ensembles yourself. On Monday evening New Music Brighton gives a concert of music written by local amateur and professional composers, an opportunity to hear what your neighbour might be writing.
